THESIS STATEMENT, GOALS
Thesis Statement:
Pre 6/27: The goal of this internship is to determine what new scientific sources can be investigated with a telescope with higher spectral resolution than any other x-ray telescope before it previously.
6/28 The goal of this internship project is to model x-ray emitting sources in space and examine the error in the data in order to determine whether a new x-ray telescope, conX, would have sufficient effective area in order to analyze different x-ray topics.
7/6
The goal of this internship is to carry out simulations of x-ray spectra in order to determine whether a new IXO dsign would make a significant scientific leap forward over existing x-ray telescope missions.
This will be determined by figuring out how much effective area and exposure time is needed to get down to the desired error required in detecting interesting sources.
Interesting features include features in the spectra like Fe-K.
Key questions to investigate will include: What is error desired level of error?
Thesis goals:
1. Conclusively determine new scientific sources that can be investigated
2. Gain very good understanding of spectroscopy
